“Bodylore” Opening Reception at Olly Olly January 24

Olly Olly, a new alternative art space in Fairfax, VA, is pleased to present its inaugural pop-up art exhibition, Bodylore, an exploration of the human figure and an investigation into the body as social construct, tradition, myth, and fairytale.  On Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 7pm to 10pm, spend an evening with the artists:

Eames Armstrong

Jackie Hoysted

Carolina Seth

Robert C. Yi

Bodylore features a variety of work dealing with the body, the interaction of bodies, embodiment, the folklore of bodies, play, and the role of the body in our everyday experience, dream-life, and cultural imagination.

Olly Olly wants to nourish the body and the community as well. We will be collecting healthy non-perishable food items for the Food Bridge Program at Our Daily Bread, which provides short-term emergency food assistance to Fairfax County area residents who are in crisis. We encourage you to bring a healthy non-perishable food item to donate. The Food Bridge Program is most in need of cooking oil, brown rice, dried beans, canned fruit in its own juices, and pasta sauce.

A Little Something New for You

I’ve been in a frenzied mode of creativity for months now. You can usually find me running around with paint in my hair and mountains of paper scraps at my feet. Between the crazy nonstop world of the regular everyday madness, starting a new poetry workshop in January, and being involved in something like a billion incredible art projects, this poor little blog thingy tends to become neglected. Don’t get me wrong. I’m grateful for the busy pace. I crave it, you know.

Creating new pieces for Free Art Friday NoVA and giving pieces away every week has become an obsession. I’ve even sent a piece of my free art off to Sydney, Australia. Every once in a while I give away a Free Art Friday piece on my Facebook page as well. And, just in case you’re interested in finding some of my free art in Northern Virginia, I’m planning to drop pieces at the new Epicure Café for the next several weeks. I would love for you to find a piece! If you do find one, please take a photo of yourself with your Free Art Friday piece and post it to the Free Art Friday NoVA page and/or to my Dear Suburbia page on Facebook. I would love to see you enjoying your free found art!

I’ve also become part of a new art collective, The Bunnyman Bridge Collective, with fellow artists Jason Davis and Javier Padilla. Be on the lookout. We’re already up to quite a bit of creative mischief in the unsuspecting wilds of suburbia. There are so many exciting collaborations and art filled events in the works for 2014. I’m keeping them as sort of a secret for now. I’ll let you in on all of it very soon. For now, here are a few of my most recent collages that I hope you will love!  xoxo

This Is Blue Shag

Look at her, my love, proof of peace. All cascade, all swoon, all grace. She dines by moonlight, and backflips, curling through this blue sea of my true origin. She is all cotton candy. She is all feather and tentacle. She is all bramble and seagrass and moss and weed. This girl is a shipwreck. This girl now breathes under water.

Distilling Thisness

Since you know a soul cannot be extracted or even quantified by anything like reason, or in these easy hours of starlight clothed with the hum of toads, you discard the charts and sentence stems and bask in the blooming sensuality of elemental radiance. You said, each thing is a thing that is never another thing, but always connected to every and all things. You are your own apparatus of embodied knowing and unknowing. This one and exact specificity. From the corner of your eye, or in what you tell yourself are dreams, the tiniest drops begin to fall. You decide to remember, or maybe imagine, it could be something like what you call real. More than an optical interference of liquid immiscibility. The astonishing essence. The everyday dispersion of color, light, ether, vapor, and heat.
